Poe and Ralph

Every comic artist needs a sketchbook. It’s part of their creative process, essential to the creation of not just the comics themselves but story ideas, character designs, and even just basic drawing skills. That’s why studying an artist’s sketchbooks grants one a unique opportunity to peer into their mind and see a little of how they think, what they value, and what they strive for in their art.
There’s just one problem… after more than a decade of drawing, an artist piles up a LOT of sketchbooks, and it’s awfully hard to cart those things around, let alone sift through them! So we decided the better way to really share Poe’s process and history would be to scan every single page and share selected pieces of the more interesting stuff here in convenient digital format.
Ideally, this site will update at least once a day when it goes live, and it will feature a sampling of images taken from the last decade’s worth of sketchbooks. Some will be recognizable, others won’t, but either way, we hope you enjoy this chance to poke around in Poe’s head.
Oh, and yes, the sketchbook pages are available to purchase in our online store. However, they are distributed randomly, we do not take requests.
